Dinning OUT

On Saturday I went out to dinner at a small Italian eatery. Here is my review

Name : The Italian Kitchen Trattoria Cafe.
Area : Tokai

First impressions about the place is that of a small intimate place charming decor very open and a great view out of Blue Route Mall across the road. Really nothing fancy. Waiters was really attentive without being a pain. don't you just hate it when the server pops around every few minutes asking if everything is okay? Well I do I came to eat and if you come to me every few minutes to talk I might never get around to eating.

Starters.

They have a great selection of starters and specials. The waiter informed us of the specials for the night, I ended up taking the Meatballs Pomodore with blue cheese and Parmesan cheese (R43.00) and my wife took the Prawn Salad with peaches and a citrus dressing (R45.00). I tasted both and they were devine. The meatballs was cooked to perfection the pomodore sauce in combination with the Bluie Cheese and Parmesan cheese blended together perfectly, the prawn salad was just as good the dressing was not overpowering and complemented the peaches and prawns and the rocket leaves.

Main

Filled with apple, sage, and celery, bucatini or spaghetti, honey and mustard reduction, greens for me (R99) and Veal Lemon and thyme risotto, porcini mushroom and red wine sauce, assorted vegetables, rocket (R110) for the wife. Wow what a beautiful sauce the pasta was cook just right the park neck was fall apart soft a few twist of the black pepper rounded it off perfectly. The Veal and Risotto with the red wine sauce was just as great served hot and cooked properly we had no complaints .

Desserts

I had there famous Ice Cream Cake and let me tell you perfection honeycomb pieces all over with chocolate sauce and the wife ordered the Cheese cake the smoothest creamiest cake we have ever had. I am a bit of a cheese cake freak and this ticked all my boxes.

All in all we had a great evening the surroundings was great, food was of a excellent standard there is ample parking infront and behind the place with the normal parking guards. Be kind tip the guy please. Total bill was just under R500 with a bottle of the house wine.

The only negative I can think of is that they don't make there own pasta on site but its a small thing food was great and I would gladly return for yet another great evening maybe this time I will bring a few friends and make a night of it.

Black day for PRESS Freedom

I have had this blog for a few months and never thought I would be writing this as my 1st article. So on this sad day here goes the beginning of THE REVIEW

Yesterday November 22 2011, the South African National Assembly with a ANC majority passed what is called Protection of State Information Bill.

This bill will give the government sweeping powers to arrest whistle blowers and hide their corrupt actions under the guise of National Security. The ANC took over from a white dominated regime in 1994 in a sweeping victory of the 1st democratic all inclusive elections in the history of this brilliant country. With promises of a free society, transparency and press freedom they came to power with great praise from all across the globe.

Mr Nelson Mandela promised 1 000 000 homes in 5 years, basic services to most homes in 15 years, job creation, upliftment of the poor and previously disadvantaged. The honorable Mr. Mandela had all the good intentions but alas there was people in his inner circle that saw this as an opportunity to enrich themselves and plunder the country.

Mr Tabo Mbeki took over 4 years later and things seemed on track until he was removed be a coup spearheaded by the now President and ANC leader Mr. Jacob Zuma.

As most informed people know Mr. Zuma was investigated by the Scorpions (aka NPA) after some dramatic events in court and revelations this went away like mist infront of the sun.

We are now stuck with a National Assembly where the majority is ANC and if this is left unchecked they will end up changing the newest true democracy on the continent into the nightmare many white South Africans predicted all those years ago "DIE ROOI GEVAAR"

I am not a political analyst, or even in politics just a layman with a little internet access that wants to air his views. I am not 100% correct in my views but not 100% wrong either. I am child of the struggle, the days when we were in school uniforms standing on school grounds facing police armed to the tooth protesting a unjust regime and demanding the release of OUR political leaders. Now we stand in total disbelief that the leaders we thought will lead us into the light has dragged us back into dark days of a secretive, behind closed doors not transparent government.
